What DK Metcalf said about Seahawks' impressive start to the 2024 season

For a minute there the Seattle Seahawks looked like more of the same to start out the season, at least on one side of the ball. While rookie head coach Mike Macdonald's defense was flying around making stops and looking tough at all three levels, Ryan Grubb's offense was stuck in neutral in its debut. In fact at times they literally went backwards, giving up four points in the first half on safeties after getting stuffed in their own end zone twice.

The offense bounced back after halftime though, with some help from Grubb's adjustments in the locker room. Here's what star wide receiver DK Metcalf had to say about the game when he spoke with reporters on Wednesday, per Gregg Bell at the Tacoma News Tribune.

DK Metcalf on Seahawks' Week 1 win

"We've got a pretty good defense.... the offense stuttered in the first half. Everybody saw it, but the way our defense kept responding. Every time they had to go out there on the field and get a big stop they did it, so you know, we're going to lean on each other the whole season. Nobody wants to start out the season like we did on offense but we're gonna learn from it, but like I said, out defense had our back..."

It was a pretty strong all-around effort, especially on defense. Hopefully the offense finds its footing earlier going forward.

As for Metcalf himself, he had a pretty forgettable 2024 debut. In his defense, Metcalf drew a very tough assignment this past week, getting matched up with Pat Surtain II, who many analysts believe is now the best cornerback in the league. Surtain held Metcalf to just three catches for 29 yards.

With number two receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba being limited to just two catches for 19 yards, the Seahawks passing game desperately needed somebody to step up. As per usual, 10-year veteran Tyler Lockett answered the call. Lockett posted a team-high 77 yards and when it mattered most, he delivered the game-winning catch on third down inside the two-minute warning.
