Does Lions' Carlton Davis have revenge on his mind ahead of matchup with Buccaneers?

One of the more interesting storylines for the Week 2 matchup between the Detroit Lions and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is cornerback Carlton Davis playing his first game against his former mates.

Davis was a second-round draft pick of the Buccaneers in 2018 and spent the first six seasons of his career in Tampa Bay, where he developed into a good starting cornerback and won a Super Bowl.

But Davis' stint in Tampa Bay ended earlier this offseason when he was traded to the Lions , who were looking to upgrade their secondary after sporting one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL last season.

The "revenge game" narrative is always going to be attached to a player like Davis when he's facing his former team for the first time, but the veteran cornerback says he isn't thinking like that.

“It’s not personal for me, at all,” Davis said, according to Christian Booher of Sports Illustrated . “I could never get personal with these type of games, because it’s all business. They’re just the next opponent in our way and it’s a long journey.”

“Like I said, it’s a business. I do have a lot of love for those guys over there, but on Sunday it’s football, man. There’s no friends on the field, and there won’t be on Sunday.”

Despite what Davis said, Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn believes he does have a chip on his shoulder for the upcoming contest.

Glenn also revealed that Davis has been an asset for the Lions in their preparation for the Bucs, with the defensive coordinator saying the veteran cornerback gave the best breakdown of the Bucs' receivers that Glenn has ever seen.

While we can't say for sure how much Davis has revenge on his mind, we do know the Buccaneers certainly have it on theirs after the Lions eliminated them from the playoffs last season.
