An AFC East rivalry that's heated up in recent years, Buffalo and Miami are set to face off in the second "Thursday Night Football" game of the 2024 season. Though Josh Allen and the Bills have taken the division the last four years, Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins have clipped at their heels each campaign.
Nevertheless, Tagovailoa has triumphed over the Bills just once in seven starts against the team, only missing the Dolphins' narrow 2023 AFC Wild Card loss to Buffalo with a concussion. The quarterback had a strong performance against the Jaguars in last week's contest, throwing for a league-leading 338 yards, 23 receptions and one touchdown in the 20-17 win.
Tyreek Hill, who was detained on his way into Hard Rock Stadium before kickoff , and Jaylen Waddle combined for 239 yards and 12 receptions in the Week 1 comeback victory. The Dolphins defense shut out Jacksonville in the second half, allowing Tagovailoa & Co. to overcome a 10-point deficit, sacking Trevor Lawrence three times in the process.
The Bills also overcame a halftime deficit in Week 1, eventually beating the Cardinals 34-28. Allen completed just under 80 percent of his passes for 18 receptions, 232 yards and two touchdowns, rushing for two scores as well. Rookie wideout Keon Coleman led all Buffalo receivers with 51 yards and four catches, while Khalil Shakir and Mack Hollins pulled in a touchdown apiece. Defensive end Greg Rousseau sacked Kyler Murray three times in the contest.
Thursday's matchup could very well have postseason implications with both teams appearing to be contenders for the AFC East yet again. Halftime: Bills 24, Dolphins 10
9:42 p.m. — Allen takes a knee as time winds down to halftime, and Buffalo heads to the locker room up 14 on division rival Miami. The Bills QB has 108 yards on nine completions so far, but Cook has been the team's star so far with 60 yards and two touchdowns on five carries as well as one receiving score.

9:41 p.m. — With eight seconds remaining in the half, McDaniel calls on the field goal team. Sanders hits a 34-yard try and the Dolphins are finally in double digits. Sanders kicks it off for a touchback and Buffalo has four seconds to work with before half.
9:39 p.m. — Buffalo takes another timeout with 12 seconds to go after Tagovailoa completes a 7-yard pass to Smith for 2nd & 3 at the Buffalo 16. After the break, Tagovailoa tries Smith again but he can't bring it in.
9:37 p.m. — Hill makes a 6-yard reception up the middle for a first down but is tackled inbounds, so McDaniel takes his final timeout of the half with 16 seconds remaining. McDermott follows that up with a Bills timeout as well.
9:35 p.m. — Tagovailoa takes off and runs for 11 yards and the 1st down to Buffalo's 35. He scrambles again but runs out of bounds for no gain before passing it short to Wilson for a six yard gain. McDaniel takes his second timeout at 3rd & 4 on the Bills 29 with 21 seconds left.
9:33 p.m. — Achane takes another handoff and is pummeled by Rousseau for a loss of five, setting up 3rd & 11 with 33 seconds to go. Miami then takes its first timeout of the half.
9:31 p.m. — Achane makes it 3rd & 2 with a five yard run to the Bills 49, then Smith makes a four yard reception for the a fresh set of downs. Tagovailoa then passes it short to Achane who runs out of bounds at the Buffalo 45.
9:29 p.m. — Cook has tied a Bills record with three touchdowns in a first half, a feat that has only been achieved six times in team history.
9:27 p.m. — Bass' kick goes for a touchback and Tagovailoa's first pass goes to Waddle who is downed at the line of scrimmage for no gain. Achane takes the next handoff and runs 13 yards for a first down, following that up with a 3-yard run before the two minute warning.

9:24 p.m. — TOUCHDOWN BILLS! Cook snags his third score of the night, and it's his best so far—a 49-yard run straight up the middle before streaking to the outside and running into the end zone. Bass kicks the extra point and Buffalo has now extended its lead to 17 with 3:36 to go until half.
9:18 p.m. — Achane combines for nine yards on the next two handoffs before Ingold is downed at the Buffalo 45 for a loss of one. The Dolphins face 4th & 2 and elect to go for it, but Tagovailoa is engulfed by Oliver for a six yard loss and a turnover at the Miami 48 with 3:45 in the half to go.
9:16 p.m. — Bass boots it into the end zone for the fifth touchback of the night and Miami will start with it on their own 30. Achane takes the first handoff for 17 yards and first down.

9:13 p.m. — TOUCHDOWN BUFFALO! Cook punches in a 1-yard score on the 85-yard drive, and Bass hits the extra point, putting the Bills up double digits with 6:25 remaining in the half.
9:12 p.m. — Shakir makes a 4-yard catch then Allen targets Johnson inside the five on 3rd & long, where he makes the catch to set up 1st & goal at the one.
9:10 p.m. — Davis takes two more handoffs and runs for a combined 18 yards to the Miami 32 before he's tackled for a loss of one on his next take. Brown is called for a false start on the next snap and Buffalo moves back five yards for 2nd & 16 at Miami's 38.
9:08 p.m. — Allen kicks the drive off with a short pass to rookie Davis for a loss of one. Then, he slots a long pass up the middle between several defenders to Shakir for a 21-yard gain. Poyer is called for unnecessary roughness for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Shakir during the play, and the Bills move all the way up to the 50 with a fresh set of downs.
9:03 p.m. — Smith catches a short pass from Tagovailoa and gains significant ground for 14 yards. The quarterback then throws an incompletion to a diving Hill, and suddenly it's 4th down. Bailey comes on to punt and it's fair caught by Codrington at the Buffalo 15.
9:01 p.m. — Bass' kick goes for a touchback and the Dolphins receive the ball at their own 30. Rookie Wright enters the game for Miami and makes a 4-yard reception before running for nine yards and a first down. However, Armstead is called for a holding and Miami is pushed back to their own 23 at 2nd & 17.
9 p.m. — As far as injury updates go, Bernard's status is questionable as he's dealing with a pectoral injury.

8:57 p.m. — Sean McDermott sends out the field goal team and Bass nails the 43-yard kick to seal a 3-point lead with 12:41 in the half.
8:56 p.m. — Cook runs it left for a 3-yard gain, saving the play after slipping in the backfield. Then, Allen takes a shot to Samuel in the left corner of the end zone but he is well covered by Brooks. Allen then misses another pass short to Johnson to set up 4th & 7 at the Miami 25.
8:54 p.m. — Allen fakes a throw and scrambles for three yards to start the quarter before firing one up the middle to Shakir for 11 and a first down at Miami's 28.
End of first quarter: Bills 7, Dolphins 7
8:50 p.m. — Shakir takes a handoff from Allen for two yards before the clock winds down to end the first quarter. Allen is 4-for-6 passing so far for 40 yards while Tagovailoa has missed three of nine passes, two of which have been intercepted. Nevertheless, the score is tied at seven.
8:48 p.m. — Achane takes Tagovailoa's first handoff of the drive for one yard before Hill makes a 12-yard run off a shovel pass from the quarterback for a first down. Then, Tagovailoa overthrows Chosen around the 45-yard line and is intercepted by Benford who is pushed out of bounds at the Miami 44.
8:45 p.m. — On 4th down at their own 39, Buffalo elects to punt and Berrios receives it at Miami's 17. Notably, Bills linebacker Terrel Bernard has entered the locker room with an apparent injury, weakening an already thin Buffalo defense.
8:42 p.m. — Sanders kicks it off for a touchback and the Bills get it at their own 30. Cook takes a handoff for three yards then Shakir makes a six yard reception. Allen then drops the ball briefly on 3rd & 1 but recovers it quickly, before a 2-yard loss on an incompletion.

8:39 p.m. — TOUCHDOWN DOLPHINS! Achane gains a yard on his first carry then catches a short pass from Tagovailoa at the right sideline and runs it into the end zone. He now has 13 touchdowns in 13 games, and Sanders nails the extra point to tie it up at seven with 3:21 to go in the quarter.
8:36 p.m. — Tagovailoa rockets a pass to Waddle up the middle, and the receiver is tackled at the one for 1st & goal. The next play, Miami loses the ball on a fumble but the play is called dead thanks to a false start on the Dolphins' Eichenberg. Miami is pushed back to the six.
8:34 p.m. — Achane erases the penalty for Miami and earns a fresh set of downs after two runs for 22 yards total, setting up 1st & 10 on the Bills 24. The running back is stopped on the next carry for no gain by Epenesa, then Tagovailoa completes a 6-yard pass to Wilson to get into the red zone.
8:32 p.m. — Miami makes its way into Bills territory with a 10-yard pass to Tyreek Hill, who is pushed out of bounds at the Buffalo 41 for a 1st down. Then, Julian Hill is called for a false start, sending his team back five.
8:30 p.m. — Bass kicks another touchback and the Dolphins start at their own 30 again. Tagovailoa's first pass goes to Smith who muscles his way to the Miami 45. Waddle receives the next handoff and goes for four yards.

8:26 p.m. — TOUCHDOWN BILLS! Allen floats it left to a wide open Cook, who rushes for 17 yards up the sideline for a score. Bass nails the extra point and Buffalo leads with 9:49 to go in the first, thanks to a gutsy play call by OC Joe Brady.
8:25 p.m. — Allen's throw on 2nd & 2 is incomplete, then Johnson runs up the middle but is slammed by Long and Sieler for a loss of one. Allen then calls the Bills' first timeout on 4th & 3 at Miami's 17 after setting up to go for it. There's just under 10 minutes remaining in the quarter.
8:23 p.m. — Buffalo quickly gets a 1st down thanks to a 9-yard catch by Kincaid and a 4-yard run by Cook. Allen then completes another pass to Kincaid who is downed by Poyer at the 16-yard line.
8:22 p.m. — Tagovailoa attempts to hit Tyreek Hill way downfield but overthrows him to set up 3rd & 13. Then, the quarterback's next pass intended for DuBose bounces off the receiver's hands and lands with Buffalo's Ingram, who returns it to the Miami 37 for 23 yards and his first career pick.
8:19 p.m. — Miami gets its first fresh set of downs thanks to a short catch from Waddle and two brief runs from Achane and Oliver. On 1st & 10 at their own 42, Achane is then tackled for a 3-yard loss by Douglas.
8:16 p.m. — Berrios and Wilson set up deep to receive the kickoff, which Bass boots into the end zone for a touchback. Miami will get the ball at their own 30.
8:15 p.m. — Poyer is serving as one of Miami's captains tonight for the coin toss, which the Bills win. They defer, and the Dolphins will get the opening kick.

7:45 p.m. — It's also worth noting Achane has been "very restrictive of his movements during warm up," according to Miami Herald writer Omar Kelly . While he's slated to play, limited usage of the running back could weaken Miami's ground game without Mostert on the field.
7:40 p.m. — Keep an eye on Allen's left hand throughout the game. The quarterback injured his non-throwing hand diving into the end zone on one of his two rushing touchdowns last week. Thankfully, it wasn't serious enough to keep him out of practice, but he has made some adjustments ahead of tonight.
7:30 p.m. — Tonight's most wholesome piece of news is the reunion of brothers Blake and Reid Ferguson, long snappers for the Dolphins and Bills respectively. Blake Ferguson was a member of Joe Burrow's 2019 LSU National Championship team before he was drafted by Miami in the 6th round of the 2020 draft. The older of the two, Reid Ferguson also played at LSU until he was signed by Buffalo as a UDFA before the 2017 season.
7:10 p.m. — BetMGM has Miami as 2.5-point favorites over Buffalo, with the over/under set at 49 points. The Bills have won 11 of the teams' last 12 matchups dating back to December 2018 before Allen and Tagovailoa faced off for the first time. The Miami QB has only beaten Buffalo once, with six of his 19 total NFL losses coming at the hands of Allen.
7 p.m. — Inactives have been released for both teams ahead of kickoff. Bills starting CB Taron Johnson will sit out his first contest after injuring his forearm early in last week's game. Additionally, DEs Joe Andreessen and Dawuane Smoot are sidelined with respective oblique and toe injuries.
For the Dolphins, starting running back Raheem Mostert was ruled out of tonight's game with a chest issue—however, fellow back De'Von Achane is not on the injury report after dealing with an ankle injury, which is a positive sign for Miami.
6:45 p.m. — Both teams have arrived at Hard Rock stadium ahead of today's divisional matchup between the Dolphins and Bills. It's worth noting Buffalo QB Allen is an undefeated 6-0 in Thursday night games, none of which have been against Miami.
