Hollywood Brown was hoping to make it back to play in Week 2 for the Kansas City Chiefs. Instead, the speedy wide receiver has been placed on Injured Reserve and will undergo surgery.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media broke the sad news on Friday.

Rapoport notes that Brown "aimed to get back on the field this week. Instead, with his shoulder not healing as it needed to, he'll head to IR and have surgery."

This injury was sustained by Brown on the very first play of his preseason with the Chiefs this summer. He made an 11-yard catch and was tackled to the ground where he landed on his shoulder area awkwardly. The resulting injury was a sternoclavicular joint dislocation that sent him to the hospital.

Brown has been rehabbing in recent days and the team was hopeful he'd make a return to action soon. However, complications have arose that have required a setback to his recover.

The veteran receiver has tallied 313 catches for 3.644 yards and 28 touchdowns over the course of his career.
