If the Miami Dolphins want Kenny Pickett, Eagles fans are interested

It did not take long for Eagles Twitter to light up with ideas of general manager Howie Roseman fleecing the Miami Dolphins in a trade for current Eagles backup quarterback Kenny Pickett:

After a rather ugly Philly debut in the preseason, fans would not be disappointed if Pickett’s Philly tenure ends up being a short one. With Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s short and long-term future in the NFL unknown, after the 26-year-old suffered another scary concussion on Thursday night, the team appears set to roll with backup Skylar Thompson going forward. The prospect of Thompson, a former seventh-round pick, starting for the foreseeable future is devastating for a Dolphins team with real aspirations in the AFC this season.

The Sporting News' Vinnie Iyer laid out the 5 best Dolphins QB options to replace Tua . Unfortunately for Eagles fans, Pickett did not make his list.

    But why not Pickett?

He was a big enough college star at Pitt for the Steelers to make him the first quarterback off the board in 2022. They moved on from him this offseason, trading him to Philly after signing Russell Wilson in free agency, but isn't Pickett a better option than Thompson? Or washed-up former Dolphin Ryan Tannehill, who remains a free agent?

Roseman and the Eagles are in a position to at least float a trade offer to Miami. In a vacuum, Tanner Mckee was a better player than Pickett in the preseason. And for all his struggles in Pittsburgh, Pickett would definitely bring some competitiveness and moxie to his next team.

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel might not be interested in breaking in a new quarterback mid-season. But if Miami does end up kicking the tires on guys like Josh Dobbs of the 49ers , or Jimmy Garoppolo of the Rams , as Iyer projects, why not throw Pickett in the mix as well? With the Dolphins projected to have 10 selections in the 2025 NFL Draft, a deal could make sense for both sides.
