The New York Mets went light on spending last offseason but have still found a way to contend in 2024. At 80-66, they lead the race for the third and final National League Wild Card spot.

The team has received contributions from a variety of sources, including a valuable utility man who has captured the hearts of fans with solid production and his own song titled "OMG."

Veteran Jose Iglesias has signed minor league deals each of the last four seasons, but Jon Heyman of the New York Post suggested that New York should bring him back for 2025.

"How did Jose Iglesias have to do minors deals four straight years?" Heyman wrote. "The Mets should bring him back, this time on a majors deal."

The Mets are a relatively young team but have benefitted from the reliable veteran presence of Iglesias. He has helped create a positive vibe in the clubhouse and has performed quite well this season.

The 34-year-old is hitting .317 with three home runs, 23 RBI, five stolen bases, and an .812 OPS. He can play multiple infield positions and is certainly a valuable commodity.

His success this season should be enough to land him a Major League contract rather than force him to settle for a minor league deal. The Mets would be wise to keep him around.

He's a solid utility man and contact hitter from the right side of the plate that has given the Mets a boost this season and should do so again if brought back for 2025.

His market shouldn't be too competitive, so the Mets should be able to afford to bring him back for next season. We'll see if they decide to keep him around.
