Justin Herbert openly hates elevators and that's wonderful for the Chargers

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is officially over elevators after being stuck in one with his teammates this preseason. The franchise quarterback declared war on elevators a week after the debacle with a simple addition to his post: #noelevators

It's a fun running joke that has now caught on with some of his teammates, including wide receiver Simi Fehoko. Even the Chargers' social media team has joined in on the fun.

So, why does it matter? Why is a Herbert hashtag a wonderful sign for the Chargers?

For the possibly the first time in his career, Herbert is having a blast, playing with fire, and winning football games without needing to be Superman every outing. And that, to all of us Chargers fans, is a beautiful sight.

Look no further than his fiery pre-game speech ahead of the home opener against the Las Vegas Raiders. Herbert has never been shy in front of his teammates, but he was ready for all-out war on Sunday in a way fans had not seen for years:

Herbert had this to say about how the Chargers closed out the fourth quarter with two touchdowns to seal the game:

The past couple of years we go three-and-out, we punt the ball and things go a different way. To be able to drive the ball down like that, put it in the end zone and then have the defense come up with a big stop, I thought that was awesome to see.

The last meaningful game the Chargers played at SoFi Stadium featured Herbert throwing for 323 yards and four touchdowns. The offense scored five touchdowns in a row to finish the game, ending the day with 38 points in one of the more impressive offensive showings in the NFL.

They lost by three points to the Detroit Lions.

Sure, 144 passing yards and one touchdown is not going to get it done every week for Herbert and the Chargers. But with Jim Harbaugh at head coach and Jesse Minter coordinating a ferocious defense, it was enough on Sunday to win by 12 points.

Herbert is loved, supported, and might be on the way to finally consistently winning under a head coach who will not ask him to carry the team on a weekly basis. Not much more Chargers fans can ask for having watched the superstar quarterback endure everything he did the past few seasons.

    Just remember: #noelevators
