Christian McCaffrey to IR: Will 49ers star play Seahawks Week 6?

The stars seem to be aligning for the Seattle Seahawks to get off to a hot start in the regular season. Their schedule is relatively soft to start, as their first two games are against the AFC's two-worst teams this year.

They have already beaten the Denver Broncos Sunday at home and they're favored to win against the New England Patriots tomorrow on the road. Next up, the Miami Dolphins will visit in Week 3, but right now it looks like starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa might not be available for that game, as he suffered another concussion on Thursday night.

Now we have word that Seattle's greatest nemesis may be out of the lineup as well when they meet in another Thursday Night Football matchup in Week 6.

According to a report by Adam Schefter at ESPN, the San Francisco 49ers are placing superstar running back Christian McCaffrey on injured reserve with an Achilles issue. That means he will have to miss at least the next four games, starting with tomorrow's against the Minnesota Vikings.

Those counting at home know this doesn't necessarily mean McCaffrey will be out when the 49ers visit the Seahawks next month, as he will be eligible to return from injured reserve that week. While that's no guarantee, it would also make sense if the 49ers were targeting that game for McCaffrey to return.

Thus far McCaffrey has obliterated the Seahawks in every meeting for San Francisco since he was traded from the Carolina Panthers, totaling 486 rushing yards in four games.
