Shots fired at Golden State Warriors

The Warriors locked up Stephen Curry through at least the 2026-27 season but have been unable to do much else this offseason. They seem to be a quality piece away from being a contender, but there seems to be some uncertainty about their current direction.

Rumors are circling that they may be interested in trading for Jimmy Butler, but at what cost?

“They’re like one of those rock and roll bands that’s still touring. They’ve still got their lead singer, and he can still crank it out at a high level. But it’s not the same band as before, and they haven’t had a hit record in a few years,” said an anonymous coach to Heavy Sports .

If the goal is a championship, being an over-the-hill rock and roll band is different from what the Warriors should want to be compared to. Steph Curry can still get it done, as he showed in the Paris Summer Olympics, but aside from the two-time NBA MVP, this does not feel like a championship roster.

The franchise may take a swing at a player like Butler, but they seem so dead set on keeping Jonathan Kuminga that a deal seems unlikely at the moment.

“That championship they won against Boston, that’s looking like a lifetime achievement award now. They had the experience and professionalism, and Boston wasn’t ready to deal with that yet,” said the anonymous coach.

If Golden State can put together one last hurrah and make another deep playoff run, it would almost be surprising at this point, which is shocking considering how successful they have been over the past decade.

Maybe they have one more trick up their sleeve, but it is not a good look when an anonymous source calls them the washed-up Rolling Stones behind their backs.
