Jonathan Taylor stats Week 2: Colts star shines before baffling benching

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor did what he could to prevent a brutal upset loss against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

While the Colts couldn't overcome some major issues on both sides of the ball in an embarrassing 16-10 loss to the Packers at Lambeau Field, Taylor looked like his typical self.

After the Colts narrowly lost to the Houston Texans, 29-27, in Week 1, Taylor only registered 48 rushing yards and a touchdown without seeing a target in the passing game.

It wasn't the easiest day for Taylor against the Packers, especially after the Colts offense went punt, interception, punt, punt and turnover on downs during their first five drives.

However, Taylor got it going in the third quarter when the Colts needed to rally after falling down two scores to the Packers. Taylor had seven carries for 66 yards in the third quarter as the Colts faced a crucial third-and-1 at the beginning of the fourth quarter.

In a shocking twist, Taylor was on the bench to begin the fourth quarter when the Colts faced that critical play. They failed to convert on an option with Trey Sermon in the backfield. They settled for a 50-yard field-goal attempt, which Matt Gay missed.

Taylor didn't log a single carry or target during the fourth quarter while the Colts opted to use Sermon and Tyler Goodson in the backfield instead during the two-minute drill.

He told reporters after the game that he's not dealing with an injury so it was a coach's decision to keep him off the field in the fourth quarter.
