Ex-Steelers quarterback inches closer to Titans starting job after Week 2

As the Pittsburgh Steelers continue to have their own dilemma at the quarterback position early on in 2024, one of their former signal-callers, Mason Rudolph, is inching closer to being handed the football with the Tennessee Titans .

After an abysmal showing in the Titans' Week 1 loss to the Chicago Bears that saw him literally throw the game away with what was one of the worst decisions you'll ever see a quarterback make, starter Will Levis was disappointing again in a 24-17 Week 2 defeat at the hands of the New York Jets .

Levis completed 19-of-28 passes for 192 yards and a touchdown that he was lucky to complete thanks to an incredible catch by wide receiver Calvin Ridley.

But Levis made yet another boneheaded play when he tried to avoid a sack by tossing the ball out to running back Tyjae Spears, which led to a fumble and a turnover that wrecked a drive that made it all the way to the Jets' six-yard line.

Levis' lackluster showings have now wasted two solid efforts from the defense and has no doubt cost the Titans two games. Had Tennessee gotten even slightly better play from the quarterback position, the team would be 2-0 to start the season.

At this point, the Titans have to know that and head coach Brian Callahan and his staff have to be wondering if they might be better off with a more experienced quarterback like Rudolph under center.

Chances are the Titans are going to stick with Levis for now, but Rudolph could see the field sooner rather than later if Levis keeps playing the way he has.

They can only get better. They can’t get any worse than they are now.
