Bengals trade proposal sends star wide receiver for disgruntled edge rusher

The Cincinnati Bengals need to make moves quickly to avoid a dreaded 0-3 start to the season.

After dropping their first two games against the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs , the Bengals find themselves backed into a corner.

Joe Burrow finally looked more like himself in the narrow loss to the Chiefs while Ja'Marr Chase is making headlines for reasons other than his performance on the field.

Making a splash addition to the pass rush may help even things out on the defensive side of the ball, which is why Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report suggests the Bengals make a massive trade for disgruntled New York Jets star Haason Reddick.

What the Bengals give up in exchange for this trade proposal doesn't come without its risks as Knox suggests sending away wide receiver Tee Higgins.

Higgins is a big piece of Cincinnati's offense when healthy, but if the Bengals feel destined to lose him in the spring, they might consider this swap. Moving Higgins' $21.8 million base salary would give the Bengals enough space to give Reddick a raise, while the receiver would give Aaron Rodgers another reliable target in the Jets offense," Knox wrote.

Higgins has yet to suit up for the Bengals this season due to a hamstring injury he suffered during practice ahead of the Week 1 opener. He hasn't practiced yet this season.

Meanwhile, Reddick continues to hold out from the Jets after he didn't receive a contract extension following the offseason trade from the Philadelphia Eagles.

Reddick has been one of the most consistent pass-rushers in the NFL over the last four seasons. His 50.5 sacks since 2020 rank fourth behind only T.J. Watt, Myles Garrett and Trey Hendrickson.

Sending Higgins away wouldn't be the easiest move considering what he means to the offense but if his future isn't in Cincinnati, adding a game-changing presence to the pass rush may be something to consider.

The trade doesn't make sense. Both players want long term big pay extensions that the Bengals can't afford.
