Less than one week after the Detroit Lions signed him to the practice squad, veteran kicker Greg Joseph has been poached.

According to his agent, Brett Tessler , Joseph has been signed off the Lions' practice squad to the 53-man roster of the New York Giants and will assume kicking duties with Giants kicker Graham Gano dealing with an injury .

Lions general manager Brad Holmes made it clear the team would sign another kicker to sit behind starter Jake Bates, which is why Detroit signed Joseph to the practice squad in the first place. Now, the Lions will have to find someone else.

Bates has been solid over his first two games in the NFL, with the Lions kicker making all five of his field goals and all three of his extra points. However, Bates hasn't exactly been tested yet, as all of his attempts have come from inside 40 yards.

Joseph has converted 82.6% of his field goal attempts over five seasons. He spent the last three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings and also had stints with the Cleveland Browns and Tennessee Titans .

In 2023, Joseph converted on 80% of his field goals and 94.7% of his extra points. He'll get his first look with the Giants on Sunday in Week 3.
