The Boston Red Sox lost brutally today after getting an early 2-0 lead to the Tampa Bay Rays, 8-3. They gave up four homers in two innings, and then gave up another three in the eighth.

Nick Pivetta pitched well early, but then started to come apart in the fifth inning. He gave up four earned runs, three of them homers. The relievers came in, gave up another homer, and then gave up three runs in the eighth.

The bats looked good early in the game, but only for the sixth through ninth men, as the first through fifth in the order did not get a single hit the entire game. Duran got on on a dropped strikeout, but that was it. Triston Casas hit the two-run bomb that put them ahead, in the second, and Romy Gonzalez pinch hit for Casas in eighth, giving the Sox their third and final run.

The Sox are now five games back from the Minnesota Twins, who have the last Wildcard spot. It is time to be preparing for the 2025 season, and all the young talent that will come with it.

The Sox will play the Rays again tomorrow at 6:50pm EST.
