Former Miami Dolphins free agent signing looks like a steal with new AFC team

The Miami Dolphins might wish they could have at least one free agency whiff back.

Over in Pittsburgh, safety DeShon Elliott is currently in the middle of a mini-breakout with the Steelers after signing with the team in free agency this past offseason.

Elliott spent 2023 with the Dolphins as a starter and had that memorable Week 16 interception that sealed Miami’s playoff berth.

But the Steelers swiped Ellitott away and he’s already looking like one of the top free agency steals in the league, according to Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon :

“While allowing a single eight-yard reception on six targets, he's made 13 tackles and snagged an interception.”

Given the whole Minkah Fitzpatrick thing, Dolphins fans are at least a little used to former safeties going and shining with Mike Tomlin and the Steelers, right?

Kidding aside, Elliott, still just 27 years old, has excelled next to Fitzpatrick, posting an 88.7 Pro Football Focus grade through two games. Obviously, it’s a small sample size, but veteran Jordan Poyer, for example, posted a 45.5 grade for the Dolphins through two games.

For just a two-year, $6 million contract, it’s no wonder Elliott is the latest former Dolphins safety to go look like a good value in Pittsburgh while making steal-type lists.

Same old Dolphins. Another good player slips away to another team. Mike McDaniel coached horrible against the Sea Hawks.
