Belief growing Ex-49ers RB could sign with Texans

The 2024 National Football League season is here, and now three weeks in.

There has been a flurry of moves across the league already, and there certainly will be even more moves in the coming weeks as injuries pop up. One team that already has been bitten by the injury bug is the Houston Texans.

Houston seems to be loaded at the running back spot, with Joe Mixon, Dameon Pierce, and Cam Akers all on the roster. Both Mixon and Pierce both are dealing with injuries already, though.

Because of this, Bleacher Report's scouting department mentioned former San Francisco 49ers running back Jerick McKinnon as a possible fit .

"Add Now: (running back) Jerick McKinnon," Bleacher Report said. "The Texans' running back depth is already being tested this season. Joe Mixon was out this week, and Dameon Pierce has been dealing with a hamstring injury. It's hard to find running backs at this stage of the game that aren't completely unproven or at the tail end of their careers. 32-year-old Jerick McKinnon might fall into that latter category, but he still brings value as a pass-catching back.

"The fact that he spent a lot of time with the Chiefs and could help with some information come playoff time doesn't hurt either."

McKinnon is a very serviceable veteran who has won two Super Bowls. He spent the 2020 season with the 49ers and spent the last three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. It's surprising that he still is available. Maybe he will end up finding a new home in the very near future.
