The Chicago Cubs' offseason spending did not result in dethroning the Milwaukee Brewers as National League Central champions. However, they will have another chance to add in free agency this winter.

FanSided's Zach Pressnell named three former Brewers the Cubs could sign to get "some revenge" on them. Among them was shortstop Willy Adames.

"Now Counsell and the Cubs have to look for some revenge. The best way for them to get revenge would be to go out and sign some top-tier free agents this winter," wrote Pressnell. "Heck, why not some former Brewers who played under Counsell in an attempt to weaken Milwaukee while strengthening up the Cubs?"

Adames going to Chicago would be a big emotional blow for the Brewers. He is one of the leaders on the team and is slated to hit free agency this winter. Spotrac projects Adames to sign a seven-year, $175 million deal.

Adames is having the best season of his career. He has career highs in home runs, RBIs, and stolen bases. The Brewers have not been known to spend big in free agency, but maybe they change their ways for Adames.

"Out of all the position players in the market, Adames to the Cubs makes some of the most sense for Chicago," wrote Pressnell "He would provide a great bat with the leadership skills and the knowledge of the NL Central that it takes to succeed."

Adames would be an offensive upgrade over Dansby Swanson, but the Cubs have already signed Swanson to a long-term deal. Swanson signed a seven-year, $177 million deal before the 2023 season.

Cubs media and fans are more worried about vengeance against Brewers than holding their current players and organization accountable for their decline since 2016 which might explain why they are as their current manager attests, a long way behind the team to the north of us despite outspending them year after year
