Braves among best bets for Blue Jays superstar in blockbuster deal

The Atlanta Braves could end up looking to improve the shortstop position this winter.

Atlanta hasn't performed up to its standards this season because of injuries. But the Braves don't really have too many holes to fill this winter. The Braves have plenty of talent in the organization but just have had bad luck.

If the Braves are going to be aggressive this winter, though, the shortstop position is one that could use a boost. Because of this, Heavy.com's Matt Musico listed the Braves as a top fit in a blockbuster deal for shortstop Bo Bichette.

"Current Shortstop: Orlando Arcia," Musico said. "The Atlanta Braves have been ravaged by injuries in 2024 but still find themselves in playoff contention. Orlando Arcia was a 2023 All-Star, hitting .264/.321/.420 with 17 homers and 65 RBI in 533 plate appearances. However, his offensive production has fallen off a cliff in 2024.

"Arcia is hitting .217/.269/.355 with 17 homers and 46 RBI in 584 plate appearances. According to FanGraphs, his WAR has gone from a career-high 2.4 in 2023 to 0.8 this year. It’s undetermined how motivated the Braves will be to upgrade at shortstop. He’ll earn $2 million in 2025 and has a $2 million club option for 2026."

Bichette won't be a free agent until 2026, so he is an interesting player to be on the lookout for this winter. He was in trade rumors all summer but stuck around. Now, he may end up actually getting moved. If he's available, the Braves should put in a call to add another superstar.
