Phillies listed among teams that 'could make call' star slugger

The Philadelphia Phillies likely will be aggressive this winter in free agency, no matter what happens in the postseason.

Philadelphia has been no stranger to making a big move and could be in the market to do so again. The Phillies already have top-tier offensive talents like Bryce Harper, Trea Turner, and Kyle Schwarber. But, even they could look to add more this winter, and ESPN's Jorge Castillo listed the Phillies among teams that "could make calls" for New York Yankees superstar Juan Soto.

"The Philadelphia Phillies, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, and Los Angeles Dodgers are among the other clubs that could make calls," Castillo said. "The (Washington Nationals) would love a reunion, according to people with knowledge of the situation, but it would take ownership allocating more money for Soto than they were previously willing to offer."

Any team would be lucky to have a young superstar like Soto. He has plenty of connections to the Phillies, like Harper and Turner, and it could make a lot of sense to bring him to town. Philadelphia could use an offensive boost in the outfield, and Soto clearly would be that.

Philadelphia isn't afraid to make a big move and already is a World Series contender. Landing someone like Soto to put in the middle of the lineup would just take them to another level. The Phillies likely will at least be in the conversation for Soto this winter, although the most likely outcome is that he will return to the Yankees.
