Former Cy Young expected to remain with Orioles this offseason

The Baltimore Orioles will enter the postseason as a Wild Card team and will make an attempt to have a deeper run than last year.

This year, they have an ace in right-hander Corbin Burnes, who was acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers prior to spring training.

Burnes will be a free agent at the end of this season, and he'll certainly cost a lot. However, Erik Beaston of Bleacher Report predicts that Burnes will ultimately remain in Baltimore.

"The 2021 Cy Young Award winner has been such an effective fit with the organization that barring a monster offer, it would be difficult to imagine the new owner and the GM allowing Burnes to walk," Beaston wrote.

It is important to remember that the Orioles are now under new ownership. While it isn't confirmed what their approach will be, it's possible that David Rubenstein could be willing to spend more than former owner John Angelos was.

Burnes has helped the Orioles remain a powerhouse in the American League this season, and even though they will enter the postseason as a Wild Card, they have somebody that can start Game 1 and set the tone for the series.

Keeping Burnes would allow the Orioles to remain on par with teams such as the New York Yankees and give them a shot to claim the AL East title in 2025.

This offseason is going to be a crucial one for the Orioles. Time will tell if they are able to keep Burnes around or if he'll ultimately walk. But the Orioles will likely do everything they can to keep him.
