MLB insider names NL powerhouse among biggest threats to sign Yankees' superstar

The New York Yankees are gearing up for the postseason, but much of the outside attention will focus on the Juan Soto sweepstakes in free agency.

There have been a handful of teams linked as potential suitors for Soto as the winter approaches and while the Yankees are still considered the favorites to land the superstar, they won't be without competition.

Most expect it to be a two-team race between the Yankees and New York Mets for Soto's services and while Jon Heyman of The New York Post agrees, he also mentioned another powerhouse team who could be a threat to bring Soto out of New York.

"Best guess here: The Dodgers stand as the biggest threat outside New York, as a consistent winner and spender. (There’s no East Coast bias on Soto’s part, as he was willing to sign back in San Diego.)," Heyman wrote.

It's no surprise the Dodgers find themselves in a position to make a run for Soto even if they aren't viewed as the favorites.

The deferred money in the Shohei Ohtani deal last offseason gives them enough room to make a run, and their current core of talent would appeal to Soto as World Series contenders.

The best way the Yankees can ensure Soto to re-sign with them is by winning the World Series. They'd still have to open the checkbook in a historic fashion, but getting a ring in The Bronx would make Soto want to stay even more.

The playoffs are just about here and once they are concluded, the Yankees will set their sights on re-signing the 25-year-old phenom.
