The St. Louis Cardinals finished the regular season with 83 wins and fell short of the postseason for the second straight year.

After months of speculation that major changes could be coming with the front office and coaching staff, it appears that any rumors were just a smokescreen.

Late on Sunday night, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch delivered a report that isn't sitting well with Cardinals fans.

"John Mozeliak, Oliver Marmol will stay in their roles as "changes are coming" to Cardinals," Goold tweeted on Sunday.

This news is being met with much disappointment from Cardinals fans, who understand that in order for the team to improve, changes must be made.

Mozeliak was never going to be fired from his job, but the fact that he is staying in the same role for one more season certainly raises questions about the direction the Cardinals are headed in.

The same can be said for Marmol. Former Cardinal Skip Schumaker is available after being let go by the Miami Marlins, but St. Louis has chosen to stick by Marmol despite him missing the playoffs in two straight years.

Marmol was given a contract extension back in March, a move which drew the ire of the fanbase.

Unfortunately, it's clear that the Cardinals have decided to stick with status quo, which is going to be tough to sell to the fanbase. We'll see how they try to spin it.
