Anthony Richardson injury: NFL insider provides latest update on Colts QB

    By Kevin Hickey,

The Indianapolis Colts endured another injury scare pertaining to second-year quarterback Anthony Richardson in the 27-24 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

Richardson suffered what was initially diagnosed as a hip pointer when he was tackled by two Steelers defenders late in the first quarter.

Richardson was clearly in pain and even though he tried to come back in a few plays after exiting the game, it was clear he wasn't going to be fully explosive.

Thus, the Colts decided to keep him out for the final three quarters considering they held a 17-0 lead by the time he was officially ruled out.

On Monday, the latest update on Richardson was revealed.

When head coach Shane Steichen spoke to reporters Monday, he said the team was still awaiting the results on the MRI on Richardson's injury.

A few hours later, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported that the Colts dodged a major bullet. Pelissero reported Richardson is considered day-to-day with oblique and abdominal strains and that the 22-year-old has a chance to play in Week 5.

Richardson was in the middle of his best start to a game this season. He was 3-of-4 passing for 71 yards while adding three carries for 24 rushing yards before the injury.

On paper, the Jacksonville Jaguars (0-4) appear to be pushovers this season, but the Colts haven't won in Duval County since the 2014 season.

The practice reports will give us a better idea of Richardson's status throughout the week, and we'll keep you updated on the latest developments.
