Nebraska put on another dominant defensive clinic on Saturday against Purdue, holding the Boilermakers to 10 points on 224 yards of offense. The Cornhuskers rank fifth in the Big Ten in total team defense and second in the conference in sacks through five weeks of the season.

This strong defensive start from Nebraska has the attention of ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg, who listed Husker defensive coordinator Tony White as a coach who could be in line for a future head coaching job. Rittenberg also listed USC defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn and Penn State offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki as potential head coaches soon.

Linebacker John Bullock has established himself as an anchor of this Cornhusker defense, picking up two sacks, five tackles for loss, as well as a pick-six early in 2024. His fellow linebacker Mikai Gbayor has also had a solid start to his year, ranking second in the team in tackles with 26.

This Nebraska defense will be tested in the coming weeks against some of the best offenses in the Big Ten, where they will have to pay road trips to Indiana and Ohio State. However, they cannot overlook Rutgers coming into Lincoln this upcoming Saturday, where the Scarlet Knights pose a strong running game led by Kyle Monangai.
