Steelers predicted to land game-changing wide receiver in free agency

The Pittsburgh Steelers had a major question mark at the wide receiver position going into the 2024 season, and after failing in their bid to acquire San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, that problem has not gone away.

Pittsburgh has been able to get by with what they have, which isn't much behind the team's No. 1 wide receiver, George Pickens. Knowing that, the Steelers will almost certainly be in the market for a wideout in 2025, assuming they don't make any big trades before the deadline this year.

With that in mind, Bleacher Report's Scouting Department predicts the Steelers will sign Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins in free agency in 2025.

"The Steelers are either going to like what they've seen from Justin Fields enough to roll with him at quarterback for another year, or they are going to find one in the draft. Either way, they are going to have to improve the infrastructure around the quarterback if they want to take the next step as an offense. Signing Tee Higgins away from the Cincinnati Bengals would weaken a division rival while giving the Steelers a huge boost offensively. Regardless of who is playing quarterback next season, they're job is much easier when they have George Pickens and Tee Higgins as two big-bodied deep threats."

Higgins would be a massive upgrade for a Steelers wide receivers room that is very thin behind Pickens. The Bengals wideout has a pair of 1,000-yard seasons under his belt, which is more than all of Pittsburgh's current wide receivers combined.

The concern with Higgins is his ability to stay healthy. The 25-year-old has only played a full season once during his career (2020), and he has already missed two games this season.

But that could also make him cheaper than he otherwise would be in free agency next offseason. If the price is right, Pittsburgh should absolutely make a run at Higgins in 2025.
