The New York Mets have a chance to do some damage this winter.

New York has been one of the hottest teams in baseball over the last few months and was able to sneak into the postseason on the final day of the regular season. The Mets will take on the Milwaukee Brewers in the Wild Card round of the postseason, with a date with the Philadelphia Phillies on the horizon for the winner.

Once the season ends, the Mets will have some tough decisions to make and could lose a player or two in free agency as they pursue big-name players like Juan Soto or Corbin Burnes. One player who is predicted to leave is pitcher Luis Severino after a very successful 2024 campaign, according to FanSided's Tim Boyle.

"Luis Severino has been more like his old self this season. The injuries that plagued him in his final years with the New York Yankees haven’t held him back as a member of the 2024 Mets. At times, the best starter they’ve had, he has given them some of the best pitching performances of the season. When he’s on, Sevy is someone everyone will want back. When he’s off, he’s just another guy...

"There was a period this season when Severino seemed like a must to bring back. Not so much anymore. It wouldn’t be a horrible decision, but we do have to draw the line somewhere. Sean Manaea has been much more consistent and dominant at his best. The Mets would be silly to bring them back both. Why not make it Manaea, who is having a better year?"

Severino has been great for the Mets, but there likely will be a bidding war for his services this winter, and New York may want to go in a different direction.

This writer is clueless; what makes him think the Mets won't re-sign Severino????
