Mets projected $242 million star predicted to sign with Mariners

If the Seattle Mariners could add a little offense this winter, there is a strong chance that they will be among the top contenders in the American League in 2025.

Seattle won 85 games in 2024 despite having one of the weakest offenses in baseball. The Mariners boast one of the best rotations in baseball. Seattle's rotation is so good that it even has a surplus of capable young pitching, which isn't the case with pretty much any other club.

The Mariners are in an intriguing spot and really are one slugger away from contending. This is where the New York Mets could come into play. New York is still alive in the playoffs but then will have to decide whether or not it wants to retain star slugger Pete Alonso with a mega deal in free agency.

Alonso is projected to receive a $242 million deal in free agency, and a great postseason performance will only help solidify this.

The Mets slugger will be one of the best free agents this winter and could take the Mariners to another level. Because of this, FanSided's Zach Pressnell predicted that he ultimately will end up signing with Seattle,

"The Mets are likely going to get caught up putting all their eggs in one basket trying to sign Juan Soto," Pressnell said. "They can't promise Pete Alonso the money that he's going to want until they know what's going on with Soto. Alonso will go where the money is, and there's a team out West that will do anything to bring his big bat across the country. My prediction for the Polar Bear is that he ends up with the Seattle Mariners this offseason."

If Alonso decides to leave New York, that certainly will be a devastating blow unless the team can land someone like Soto.
