In the wake of Saquon Barkley's departure to Philadelphia, the Giants brought in a new No. 26, Devin Singletary. Along with rookie Malik Nabers, Singletary has been a key piece of the Giants' new-look offense.

Singletary has functioned as the Giants' do-it-all back this season, playing 73 percent of snaps and handling 56 of the backfield's 72 carries. It shouldn't come as a shock to see New York leaning on Singletary. He and head coach Brian Daboll have a connection stemming all the way back to their time in Buffalo.

Daboll will likely have to look for backfield production from someone other than Singletary this week after he's been absent from practice with a groin injury. Let's check in on the latest injury updates regarding the Giants' RB1.

Will Devin Singletary play this week? Injury update on Giants' RB

The practice reports don't paint a promising picture for Singletary's Week 5 availability. Of the Giants' three practices this week, he was absent for two and was limited in another. As a result, Singletary has been officially designated as doubtful for Sunday's game.

While he may not have been completely ruled out just yet, a doubtful tag is almost a guaranteed absence. Players rarely overcome this designation. Giants fans and those with Singletary on their fantasy teams should be prepared to be without him this week.

Giants' RB Depth Chart: Who is Devin Singletary's Backup?

Behind Singletary, the Giants' don't have anyone with much NFL experience. Rookie Tyrone Tracy has 12 carries this season and Eric Gray has just 21 career carries across two seasons.

So far this year, it's been Tracy who has been seeing reps in the limited time that Singletary has been off the field. He is the favorite to operate as the 1A this week with Gray coming in behind him. With that being said, Tracy is just a rookie and doesn't profile to be a bell cow, so expect to see Gray on the field a fair amount.

Devin Singletary fantasy outlook Week 5

Fantasy managers should already be operating with the mindset that they will have to go with someone other than Singletary this week. Hopefully, he was merely your RB2 (or a bench asset) and his absence isn't a detrimental blow to your running back room.

If Singletary was someone you were planning to start, it's best to be proactive and find a replacement for when he is eventually ruled out. Ideally, your team has some depth and that replacement is already on your roster. If this isn't the case, someone like Trey Sermon, who is available in over half of Yahoo leagues, makes a good plug-and-play option this week.
