Phillies benching All-Star ahead of Game 2 clash vs. Mets

The Philadelphia Phillies are making a change.

Philadelphia took on the New York Mets in Game 1 of the National League Division Series and lost 6-2. The Phillies led for much of the contest but couldn't finish the game out. Philadelphia allowed five runs in the eighth and couldn't overcome the deficit.

The Phillies will get right back at it on Sunday afternoon against the Mets, with the first pitch scheduled for 4:08 p.m. ET. When Philadelphia kicks off the action, it will do so without an All-Star.

Phillies manager Rob Thomson announced that Edmundo Sosa would start in place of All-Star infielder Alec Bohm.

"Rob Thomson on replacing Alec Bohm with Edmundo Sosa: 'I wanted to get some energy in the lineup. Bohmer isn’t swinging the bat particularly well, but he’s not the only one,'" Thomson said as transcribed by 94WIP SportsRadio.

Bohm went 0-for-4 in the Phillies' Game 1 loss against the Mets. Philadelphia was one of the best teams in the National League in the regular season but doesn't have time to wait around for anyone. The National League Division Series is a best-of-five matchup.

The 28-year-old was a key piece for the Phillies in 2024. He finished the season with 15 home runs, 97 RBIs, and a .280/.332/.448 slash line. While this is the case, the Phillies need to do everything possible to avoid a 0-2 hole in the series.
