The Jaguars are not starting the 2024 season like they would have hoped. The Jags went into Week 5 still searching for their first win and hoped to get it in an important AFC South divisional matchup against the Colts.

Tensions have been boiling over for weeks with snide interview comments from both players and head coach Doug Pederson. The offense hasn't looked like it was on the same page, and quarterback Trevor Lawrence hasn't led the Jags to a win since late November 2023.

Lawrence and Jacksonville were driving down the field against Indianapolis with about 4:25 left in the first quarter. Lawrence decided to check a pass down short of the first down marker on third down and he had a teammate take exception.

Sporting News explains how that miss may have led to the sideline altercation.

    Trevor Lawrence-Gabe Davis fight explained

When Lawrence checked down, a relatively open Gabe Davis was seen shaking his hands down the field. The Jaguars were forced to kick a field goal, but it was clear that Davis thought he was open.

The broadcast detailed what happened next. When the Jaguars came to the sideline, Lawrence apparently was reviewing the play on a tablet. Something he saw caused him to slam down the tablet on the ground. It could have been that he saw Davis was open, it could have been something else.

Either way, when it happened, Davis reportedly was still jawing at Lawrence, leading to the wide receiver and quarterback being separated by teammates.

Davis didn't help his case later in the half. With 25 seconds to go in the first half, Lawrence hit him for a 21-yard gain, but Davis then fumbled.

Jacksonville was able to overcome the first half scuffle. The Jags picked up their first win of the season, 37-34, over the Colts.

    Trevor Lawrence stats

Fingers of blame likely need to be pointed all over the Jacksonville offense, but being the quarterback a lot of the blame falls on his shoulders. He also hasn't helped himself with how he has started this season.

    Week 4 vs. Texans 18 33 169 2 0

Passing numbers are down across the league. but still, Lawrence number's have not been good. The Jaguars are 1-9 over their last 10 games. The one win? Lawrence was injured and CJ Beathard led a 26-0 win over the Carolina Panthers in Week 17 last year.

Lawrence has looked better so far against Indianapolis. Yes, he missed some reads, but statistically he has taken a step forward through the first half. Lawrence had a great touchdown pass to rookie Brian Thomas Jr.

    Gabe Davis stats

Davis was a fourth round pick in 2020 by the Buffalo Bills. He played out the entirety of his rookie deal with Buffalo and benefitted from catching passes from Josh Allen. Despite his development in Buffalo, he decided to leave in free agency, signing a three-year, $39 million contract with the Jaguars.

The struggles of Jacksonville's offense have included Davis. He went into Week 5 with just nine receptions for 121 yards. Davis' receptions ranked 113th in the league, and his yardage was tied for the 91st most. It makes sense that he has been frustrated with the play of his quarterback, but the first half fumble also shows that he isn't capitalizing on the chances he is getting.

Davis was supposed to take over for Calvin Ridley who went to the Tennessee Titans in free agency. The Jaguars' wide receiving corps looked solid with Davis, Christian Kirk and Thomas, but the trio hasn't been able to mesh or get on the same page with Lawrence.
