Last week, Angel City FC faced disciplinary measures from the NWSL after they were deemed to have broken salary cap rules.

The sanctions included an immediate three-point deduction for the club, which saw them drop to 12th place in the league standings.

On Friday, Angel City faced off with Seattle Reign FC and triumphed 1-0 to secure three important points, reigniting their otherwise dwindling playoff aspirations.

    Vignola makes the difference

Only a first-half finish from M.A. Vignola separated the two trailing NWSL sides at the Lumen Field stadium. Seattle Reign now falls behind Angel City, sitting in 12th position with the playoffs drawing ever closer.

Vignola's crucial goal came about in the 34th minute of the match, thanks to a stellar assist from young star Alyssa Thompson. Vignola made an excellent run into the box to receive Thompson's calm and collected pass before smoothly firing her shot into the back of the net.

Only the one strike was enough, and the visitors did just enough to hold off the Seattle side for the entirety of the game's tense second half.

'A really tough twenty-four hours' for Angel City after NWSL disciplinary action

Angel City first assistant coach, Eleri Earnshaw, called the display "A really complete performance after a really tough twenty-four hours."

She said "We are so proud of the group for the effort they put in for themselves, for each other, for the team, for the club. On both sides of the ball, we were really, really good."

Orlando Pride have already lifted the NWSL Shield. With just three fixtures remaining of the NWSL regular-season, Angel City must turn their attention to North Carolina Courage, who they will travel to play against this coming weekend.
