Packers predicted to poach Ravens starter to address 'biggest offseason need'

When it comes to the Green Bay Packers, every year is an opportunity to win a championship.

After a playoff berth in 2023, the Packers expect to be among the top NFC contenders in 2024. In fact, now that quarterback Jordan Love is locked in long-term, the Packers should be in the hunt yearly if they can just solidify the rest of the roster.

One position that could become a question mark at some point is cornerback, where Jaire Alexander is a superstar, but the number-two spot has become a little bit iffy. Two other Packers are getting set to hit free agency, so fortifying the corner position this spring will be key.

Bleacher Report's NFL Scouting Department predicted on Monday that the Packers would land current Baltimore Ravens starter Brandon Stephens to take over the number-two role in 2025.

"With Eric Stokes in a contract year as well as Corey Ballentine, cornerback will be one of Green Bay's biggest offseason needs. But the defense has a solid No. 1 at the position in Jaire Alexander, so the organization doesn't necessarily need to go after one of the biggest names on the open market," the authors said.

"Stephens has begun to come into his own since becoming a starter over the last couple of seasons. According to Pro Football Focus, he surrendered a 79.4 passer rating when targeted in 2023 and an 84.7 rating through four games in 2024."

Stephens, 27, has come into his own in years three and four of his Ravens tenure. He started 16 games last season and totaled 11 pass breakups and two interceptions, and has already put up a strong start to the 2024 season by allowing just a 54.2% completion rate when targeted.

The Packers will have plenty of options to replace their cornerback depth in 2025, but Stephens may be the best affordable option if he maintains his upward trajectory. Green Bay will want to watch the rest of the Ravens' games closely to see how he might fit their defense.
