Ravens offensive coordinator reportedly one of 'hot candidates' for Jets head coaching job

The Baltimore Ravens may have to brace themselves for losing another coordinator.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler , Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken is considered a "hot candidate" for NFL head coaching vacancies, specifically the New York Jets .

The news comes as the Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh on Tuesday. Jeff Ulbrich is acting as the interim head coach .

Fowler said on "SportsCenter" that offensive coaches could be under consideration for the Jets job next season.

"You have to look at the offensive side of the football," Fowler said. "They very well could turn to that. So, some of the hot candidates have been Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, Houston Texans play-caller Bobby Slowik, Todd Monken in Baltimore is doing a very good job. Those are some names that you’ll hear bantered about as we go."

Monken's credentials are clear. Last year, the Ravens finished sixth in total yards, fourth in total points, and fourth in offensive DVOA in Monken's first season as OC. This year, the Ravens lead the NFL in total yards, are second in points, and first in offensive DVOA. And Baltimore arguably hasn't put together a complete game on offense yet this season.

It would be a blow to the Ravens to lose Monken, however. The Ravens lost defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald in the offseason as Monken became the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks . They also lost defensive line coach Anthony Weaver, as he became the Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator.

It's a recurring them in the NFL: The best teams' coordinators and assistant coaches get poached. It's possible Baltimore could lose another soon.

They can have him. I'm a long-time Ravens fan. I've never been a fan of him. Especially since his debacle play calling in the AFC Champion game last season..
