Lane Kiffin uses infamous Nick Saban euphemism to label Brian Kelly’s praise of Ole Miss coach

Lane Kiffin shared a tweet of Sports Illustrated’s coverage of Brian Kelly, who said that the Ole Miss head coach was “good for college football” – and Kiffin labeled the praise as “rat poison” in an ode to his former boss, Nick Saban.

Kelly referenced Kiffin’s Twitter activity when describing why the Rebels’ locker room leader is a net positive for the sport.

"I just think you have to look at how many followers he has on Twitter," Kelly said, per the Lafayette Daily Advertiser . "Lane has a positive outlook on the game and he's certainly been an essential figure in college football. He can poke fun at himself and others. I think he's good for college football."

Kiffin and Kelly’s teams have both suffered a disappointing loss this season. LSU’s came in Week 1 against USC in Las Vegas. After the 27-20 loss, Kelly went viral for a vitriolic rant revealing frustrations with the Tigers making the same mistakes year after year. Ole Miss’s lone loss came against Kentucky at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on a game-losing gaffe. Caden Davis missed a 48-yard field goal with 48 seconds remaining that would have tied the score 20-20.

Both have stabilized their squads heading into Week 7. But a loss for either will have the talking heads wondering how long the rope is for each at their respective schools.

Lane Kiffin to Florida feels inevitable, but Brian Kelly may become a long-term hire for LSU

The Kiffin-to-Florida rumors are heating up even as Florida is riding a two-game winning streak. It feels inevitable that Ole Miss will be looking for a new head coach this offseason with Lane going to Gainesville.

Meanwhile, Kelly may see chatter about his future die down with the Tigers winning and other SEC pillars like Alabama and Georgia losing. It’s a new world with the 12-team College Football Playoff, and program stability in Baton Rouge could soon make LSU one of the most attractive options in the conference.
