Pittsburgh Steelers named possible trade suitor for embattled quarterback

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a question mark at quarterback in 2024, and that could very well be the case in 2025, when both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields are slated to become free agents.

But there is a potential solution for the Steelers out there in Carolina Panthers signal-caller Bryce Young, who many believe could be traded at the deadline after he was benched in Week 2 following a lackluster start to the season.

If Young ends up on the trade block, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox thinks the Steelers could make a run at the former No. 1 overall pick, who desperately needs to escape the dumpster fire in Carolina.

"Young might also interest the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have a functional starter in Justin Fields but have no quarterbacks under contract beyond this season," Knox said. "Fields is still young enough to be a long-term solution for Pittsburgh. If his play slips, however, Young could be the next former first-rounder on whom the Steelers take a flier."

Young was actually inserted into the game late during the Panthers' Week 5 loss to the Chicago Bears and managed to make a few notable passes in garbage time, but that wasn't enough for head coach Dave Canales to go back to him in Week 6, as Andy Dalton will remain the starter .

While Young has struggled again this season and is still clearly a project, he's worth taking a flyer on as a possible long-term solution. Young has at least two more years remaining on his rookie deal, plus a fifth-year option.

Perhaps a change of scenery to a better culture like the Steelers' could do him some good. Young can sit behind Wilson and Fields for the rest of the season, giving him more time to develop, and then, in 2025, Pittsburgh can give Young a crack at the starting job.
