Patriots' Jabrill Peppers placed on NFL's commissioner's exempt list

While the New England Patriots have something to look forward to this weekend with rookie quarterback Drake Maye expected to make his first start, they'll also be without one of their key defenders.

On Wednesday, Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers was placed on the NFL's commissioner's exempt list following his arrest on Saturday. He's still expected to be charged with assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation, and possession of a class “B” substance (believed to be cocaine).

With Peppers' placement on this list, he won't be able to practice or play for the team, but he will be allowed to attend meetings and workouts and receive treatments at the team's facility.

However, head coach Jerod Mayo said he isn't in the building and won't be in the near future.

While on the list, he also won't count toward their 53-man roster, meaning New England could fill his spot in the meantime.
