Former Tennessee Titans coach coming out of retirement to join Ravens

After a few years away from the game following his retirement after the 2022 season, former Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Dean Pees is coming out of retirement yet again.

According to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic , Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Zach Orr revealed Pees is coming out of retirement and taking on a senior advisor role with the team.

This will be Pees' second stint in Baltimore. He served as the Ravens' linebackers coach from 2010-11, and then too over as the defensive coordinator from 2012-17. Pees' was on staff for Baltimore's Super Bowl XLVII victory.

"He’s a guy who knows me as a person, knows the system, knows the culture here," Orr said of Pees. "He’s a Raven."

The Ravens could certainly use Pees' wealth of knowledge, as Baltimore ranks 19th in total yards surrendered per game, 31st in passing yards and 26th in points through four games.

Following his time in Baltimore, Pees was the Titans' defensive coordinator from 2018-19. Under Pees, Tennessee's defense played a huge role in the team's improbable run to the AFC Championship Game that season.

After officially ending the Tom Brady era in New England, Pees' defense shut down Lamar Jackson and the Ravens in the divisional round before Tennessee lost in the AFC title game to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Pees retired after the 2019 campaign but returned to coaching in 2021 with the Atlanta Falcons under former Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith. Pees decided to retire once again after the 2022 season.

Pees' first job in the NFL was with the New England Patriots, where he served as the linebacker's coach from 2004-05 before being promoted to defensive coordinator in 2006. He won his first Super Bowl with the Pats.
