Giancarlo Stanton delivers clutch homer as Yankees win ALDS Game 3

Giancarlo Stanton once again delivered for the New York Yankees in the postseason.

With the game tied 2-2 in the top of the eighth inning, Stanton launched a ball deep into the night to help edge the Yankees toward a 2-1 series lead.

On a 3-1 pitch, Stanton's solo home run traveled 417 feet and had an exit velocity of 112.9 mph. Stanton's 83.9 mph bat speed was the third-highest of the night — the two higher were also Stanton swings.

The Stantonian blast was the first Yankees go-ahead postseason home run in the 8th inning or later since Raul Ibanez in Game 3 of the 2012 ALDS.

Stanton was also responsible for the Yankees' first run of the game when he smoked a double to left center field off the base of the wall to score Juan Soto from first.

He even snagged a stolen base in what was arguably the biggest surprise of the postseason thus far.

The Yankees got a decent start from Clarke Schmidt, who went 4.2 innings, allowing four hits, two runs and one walk while striking out four batters on 71 pitches.

The bullpen did a fantastic job with Clay Holmes (1.1 innings), Tommy Kahnle (1.1 innings) and Luke Weaver (1.2 innings) combining for the final 4.1 scoreless innings.

The Yankees will look to take the series with Gerrit Cole on the mound Thursday night at 8:08 p.m. ET.
