Braves predicted to cut ties with 17-year big league veteran

The Atlanta Braves had a tough 2024 season, but fans should be hopeful for 2025.

Atlanta has a deep roster, and injuries arguably are the biggest reason why the Braves currently aren't playing still in the postseason. The Braves dealt with more high-impact injuries than probably every other team in baseball, and yet they earned a playoff spot.

The Braves don't need to go out and make a flurry of expensive additions because the club has most of their core already. Atlanta just needs better health and to figure out if it wants to hand Max Fried a new deal.

Aside from that, most of the action around the Braves this offseason likely will be around the edges. The Braves could bring in some depth pieces and also lose some. FanSided's John Buhler put together a list of Braves players who could be on the way out of town and mentioned veteran hurler Jesse Chavez.

"He may claim to be ageless, but there is a reason why the Braves have tried to move on from Jesse Chavez on multiple occasions," Buhler said. "Very rarely this past season did I see some of that long-inning relief magic he has built a career off of. Far too often, I saw one meatball after another be served up to the bleachers at 450 feet a pop.

"He may or may not retire, but he has very little left in the tank for (Major League Baseball)...By moving on from Chavez, it could help a player with arbitration years on their side to make the jump."

Chavez is a 17-year big league veteran and has spent parts of the last four years in Atlanta. Maybe his time in the organization could be coming to an end.
