Chiefs predicted to trade for former Super Bowl champion receiver from AFC rival

What will the Kansas City Chiefs do about the wide receiver position?

Nothing seems to be able to stop the Chiefs from winning, but the most concerning injury by far that the team has faced is Rashee Rice's season-ending LCL tear. Rice looked to be on the way to an All-Pro season, and in his absence, the receiver room looks awfully shaky.

With trade acquisition Hollywood Brown also out for the year, the Chiefs are left with rookie Xavier Worthy, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Mecole Hardman, Justin Watson, and Skyy Moore at receiver. While Patrick Mahomes II may be a miracle worker, it's a lot to ask of him to take that group to a Super Bowl.

However, there is one receiver who theoretically should be available via trade who has played in (and won) a Super Bowl. He just happens to play for one of the Chiefs' main rivals in the AFC.

Bleacher Report's NFL Scouting Department recently predicted that Houston Texans receiver Robert Woods would land with the Chiefs in a surprise midseason trade.

"As the trade rumors continue to come in around Davante Adams, there's going to be a lot of speculation that the superstar should be a Kansas City target. That would be great in a Madden world, but it doesn't seem realistic that the Raiders would help the Chiefs pursue a third Super Bowl unless they gave up a premium," the authors said.

"Robert Woods has shown he can still be a complementary piece in a good offense, but the Texans' depth at receiver has relegated him to a tiny role in Houston. He would be a much greater help to the Chiefs...even if Houston might be hesitant to help Kansas City as well."

Woods, 32, has been the forgotten man in Houston's offense. He might see more time with star wideout Nico Collins out for at least four weeks with a hamstring injury, but to this point, he has only three receptions for 28 yards through the first five weeks.

However, Woods still has it in him to be a starting-caliber NFL receiver, which is precisely what Kansas City needs. He has over 8,000 yards in his career and although his efficiency numbers were down last season, he still averaged 10.7 yards per catch.

Houston might well be hesitant to send Woods to a fellow AFC contender, in which case there's not much Kansas City could do. But if he's available, it makes perfect sense to place the call to the Texans' GM suite.
