Red Sox free agent catcher projected to receive a decent contract this offseason

The Boston Red Sox have quite a few players preparing to hit the free agent market in the next month, including catcher Danny Jansen.

Jansen spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Toronto Blue Jays before Boston acquired him at this year's trade deadline for Cutter Coffey, Eddinson Paulino and Gilberto Bautista.

In 30 games for the Red Sox, Jansen hit .199 with a .623 OPS, three home runs and six RBIs. He also made history in 2024, becoming the first player to play for two different teams in the same game when Boston and Toronto resumed a game from before the deadline later in the year.

Now, at 29 years old, Jansen is set to hit free agency for the first time, and according to Spotrac, he's projected to receive a two-year, $8.87 million deal this offseason.

Spotrac compared his production to Max Stassi (who signed a three-year contract worth $17.5 million), Victor Caratini (two-year, $12 million), Kyle Higashioka (one-year, $2.18 million) and Andrew Knizner (one-year, $1.83 million).

With Connor Wong still on the roster and top catching prospect Kyle Teel expected to debut at some point in the 2025 season, Boston probably won't be looking to re-sign Jansen, but he'll be part of a catching split for some team next year.
