The San Diego Padres were eliminated by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Division Series. They could look to upgrade the starting rotation this offseason.

While listing free agents the Padres should sign, FanSided's Zach Pressnell urged the team to sign Jack Flaherty from the Los Angeles Dodgers.

"Adding Jack Flaherty while stealing him away from the Los Angeles Dodgers would be quite a poetic offseason move for the Padres," wrote Pressnell. "They're both making their starting rotation even better while making the Dodgers' rotation worse. It's the perfect move to make."

The Dodgers and Padres rivalry was on full display in the NLDS. Flaherty and Manny Machado were right at the forefront, so signing him away from Los Angeles would certainly be a headline move.

Flaherty is a Los Angeles native and was acquired from the Detroit Tigers at the trade deadline. Flaherty is projected to earn a three-year, $60 million deal by Spotrac .

Pressnell notes that the team can never have too many arms in the rotation. The Padres won't be losing any frontline starters, but Flaherty would be a nice addition. He would join Yu Darvish and Joe Musgrove in the Padres rotation.

"Flaherty has looked like an ace at times, but he would slot in perfectly as the third pitcher in the Padres rotation," wrote Pressnell. "More often than not, he's incredibly competitive and he provides constant stability in the rotation."

Flaherty had a 3.17 ERA in the regular season. Since joining the Dodgers, he had 61 strikeouts in 10 starts.
