Former unified light flyweight titleholder Kenshiro Teraji will seek to become a two-weight world champion at the expense of Cristofer Rosales when the pair contest the vacant WBC flyweight title at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo on Sunday, October 13. The 12-round bout is the co-main event ahead of Takuma Inoue vs. Seiya Tsutsumi and will air on ESPN+ in the U.S.

Between May 2017 and January 2024, Teraji (23-1, 14 KOs) won 14 of 15 world title bouts and avenged his only defeat, to Masamichi Yabuki, by knockout. The Japanese boxer-puncher held WBA, WBC and Ring Magazine titles at 108 pounds and was knocking on the door of pound-for-pound contention before making weight hampered his performance level. Stepping up to 112 is long overdue.

In 2018, Rosales (37-6, 22 KOs) briefly held the very WBC title that he’ll be fighting for. After scoring an upset TKO 9 win over Daigo Higa, the Nicaraguan fighter blasted out Paddy Barnes in his maiden title defense. Four months later, Rosales surrendered his title to Britain’s Charlie Edwards and later succumbed to a KO defeat at the hands of Julio Cesar Martinez when trying to regain it.

The Sporting News will provide undercard results and a full report on this co-main event from Japan.
