Kalen DeBoer after Alabama escapes upset: 'Find a way to win'

Alabama came crashing down to earth in Week 6 when they suffered a shocking upset loss to Vanderbilt. Facing South Carolina in Week 7, the seventh-ranked Crimson Tide barely escaped their second straight unranked opponent with a 27-25 rollercoaster win.

After the victory, first-year head coach Kalen DeBoer showed pride in his team’s ability to fight through an ugly performance.

“There's just so many times when we talk about finding a way to win,” DeBoer said after the win (h/t AL.com ). “The ball wasn't bouncing our way but when we find a way to win when your back is against the wall like it was, even on the last drive there, I'm proud of these guys."

Alabama fans are not sold on their Nick Saban replacement

During the game, Alabama fans went rampant with DeBoer slander on social media. DeBoer has humongous shoes to fill as a first-year replacement for Nick Saban, and he has coached Bama to a pair of shaky performances in back-to-back weeks.

Bama trailed 19-14 at the start of the fourth quarter, and quarterback Jalen Milroe threw a pick in the end zone with 12 minutes left in the contest. South Carolina gave it right back though, coughing up a fumble just 12 seconds of game time later.

The Gamecocks ended the day with more total yards than Alabama, but their four turnovers ultimately cost them what could have been an earth-shattering upset. South Carolina has now fumbled the ball seven times in six games.

Milroe ended the day with 209 passing yards, one passing touchdown, and two interceptions. He added 36 yards on the ground with two rushing touchdowns to make up for his sloppy throwing performance.

The Crimson Tide moved to 5-1 on the season with the win. With a huge matchup against Tennessee on the horizon, they will need to play much cleaner football going forward.
