Indianapolis Colts make surprising decision on Anthony Richardson in Week 6

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson will be active for Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans, but he won't be the starter.

After returning to practice this week from an oblique injury that forced him to miss 1.5 games, Richardson was listed as questionable on the final injury report.

While Richardson is expected to be active for the game, he will serve as the emergency No. 3 quarterback. Veteran Joe Flacco will make his second consecutive start, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network .

Even though Richardson logged a full practice Thursday and a limited practice on Friday this week, the Colts want to give him an extra week of rest before starting him.

As the emergency quarterback, Richardson can play if needed but only if both Flacco and Sam Ehlinger get injured during the game.

This is somewhat of a surprising decision from the Colts. Richardson was inactive last week against the Jacksonville Jaguars even though the Colts said he could have returned to the game in which he initially suffered the injury.

Flacco has played well for the majority of the snaps he's been in over the last two weeks. In the Week 5 loss against the Jaguars, Flacco threw for 359 yards and three touchdowns.

The Colts are taking the cautious route with Richardson, clearly, and it will be interesting to see if he will be ready for the Week 7 matchup against the Miami Dolphins.
