Should Russell Wilson start for Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 7?

In the same week the Pittsburgh Steelers had Russell Wilson healthy for the first time this season, Justin Fields still got the start and the Steelers had their highest scoring output of the 2024 campaign in a 32-13 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Fields didn't have to do much through the air, completing 14-of-24 passes for 145 yards. But he also added 11 carries for 59 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the ground, posting yet another impressive rushing performance.

In what was a departure from what we had seen over the first five games, Fields had a rushing attack to support him, as Pittsburgh ran for 183 yards, with Najee Harris accounting for 106 of them while also finding pay dirt.

The season-high 32 points were a bit misleading, though. The Raiders shot themselves in the foot with three turnovers that set up multiple Steelers touchdowns, and. Las Vegas also got a punt blocked that led to a Steelers field goal.

In all, the Steelers' scoring drives (including field goals) went 37, 43, 30, -10, 80, seven and 18 yards, so it's not like they lit the world on fire offensively to score those 32 points.

Fields basically did what we've seen him do all season. He wasn't particularly impressive as a passer and didn't post big numbers through the air, but he took care of the football once again, made some big plays with his legs when he needed to, and he put the defense in position to take care of the rest.

That recipe has gotten the Steelers to a 4-2 record, and if it was good enough for the Steelers not to make the switch back to Wilson in Week 6, chances are Fields' performance on Sunday will lead to his getting another start in Week 7.

But, again, Fields hasn't played to a high enough level to cement himself as this team's starter the rest of the way. We still believe the leash won't be long for Fields and the first sign of real trouble could lead to Wilson getting the football.
