Aidan Hutchinson injury: What Dan Campbell said about Lions star edge rusher

The Detroit Lions appear to have suffered a significant loss to their team during the Week 6 win over the Dallas Cowboys after star edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson went down with a gruesome leg injury.

Hutchinson suffered the injury in the third quarter after taking down Cowboys signal-caller Dak Prescott for a sack. Hutchinson's left leg was eventually put into an air cast and he was carted off the field. His exact injury has not been confirmed, but it looks like it'll be a season-ending one based on the video.

Speaking of the video: we did not include it in this article, as it's truly horrific to see.

According to Lions head coach Dan Campbell, Hutchinson will stay in Dallas to be evaluated further and the team will know more on Monday. Campbell called the injury "tough" and said "it's hard when you lose somebody like him."

Campbell added that it's a tibia injury for Hutchinson, but did not go into specifics  beyond that. The Lions head coach said the Michigan product will be "down for a little while."

It goes without saying how devastating this injury is. It's always tough to see a player go down with such a serious injury, and that's especially true for a young, talented player like Hutchinson, who is on the cusp of superstardom in the NFL.

But Hutchinson is more than just a great football player. He's an even better human being and a great leader in the locker room. There will be no replacing the caliber of player the former No. 2 overall pick is.

It's difficult to even talk about so soon after Hutchinson's injury, but the loss leaves a gaping hole in a Lions defense that was already short on pass-rushers. General manager Brad Holmes has work to do before the trade deadline passes on Nov. 5.
