How Steelers could benefit from Jets' Davante Adams trade with Raiders

The Pittsburgh Steelers came up short in the Davante Adams sweepstakes as one of the best wide receivers of the last decade rejoins his former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers in New York with the Jets.

However, as one door closes, another may open, even if the new door is a bit flimsier and more injury-prone.

With Adams joining Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard on Gang Green, former  Los Angeles Chargers wideout and recent Jets signing Mike Williams is now the odd man out in New York. And, per reports, the Jets are open to trading him .

Though he is nowhere near the caliber of receiver that Adams is, Williams had many successful seasons with the Chargers, although injuries were a problem.

Williams still put up an average of 68.8 yards per game in 2022 and 83.0 in his only three games of 2023, but the Chargers were ready to move on from the injury-prone 30-year-old.

He may be low on the list of desirable trade targets for Steelers fans due to his injury history, 24.2 yards-per-game average this year, and high-profile mistake towards the end of this week's Monday Night Football game against Buffalo.

But still, the Steelers' front office will certainly do their due diligence in inquiring after his services and he could be an option if Pittsburgh continues to strike out on some of the top names that become available.

After all, this year the Steelers offense has markedly improved, but still struggles mightily due to their lack of a second option out wide in the passing game. George Pickens has been held under sixty receiving yards in four of six games this season because opposing teams can double or even triple team the wideout.

The Steelers clearly need another option for whoever is at quarterback, whether that be Justin Fields or Russell Wilson.

The boys in black and gold welcome the Jets to Acrisure Stadium this week on Sunday Night Football, making it unlikely that they would be willing to trade Williams to the Steelers this week.

After that game, however, it will certainly be one option as Omar Khan continues to scout the trade market in hopes of improving the wide receiver room.
