Bears proposed blockbuster could land $94 million superstar pass-rusher

The Chicago Bears are building momentum at the perfect time to make a splash before the NFL trade deadline.

At 4-2, the Bears have solidified themselves as playoff hopefuls, especially given the drastic improvement shown by rookie quarterback Caleb Williams since the start of the year. Any opportunity to win now is the most important opportunity, and the Bears should be willing to go all-in to win now.

If Chicago is going to be a true contender, they will need to improve their pass rush, which has deceivingly solid stats this year despite not generating consistent pressure. Solid offensive lines are able to neutralize the Bears' front seven as of now, but that could change if the Bears pull off a blockbuster.

Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders could become available between now and the Nov. 5 deadline, and the Bears could be among the teams interested in pursuing him. Sanjesh Singh of NBC Los Angeles recently named the Bears as one of Crosby's top hypothetical destinations.

"After landing Montez Sweat from Washington in 2023, Chicago has spent some time trying to figure out who to play opposite him," Singh said. "Darrell Taylor came over from the Seattle Seahawks, and DeMarcus Walker is becoming involved, but Crosby easily would be an upgrade over both."

Crosby, 27, is the best game-wrecker who could conceivably be available via trade this season. He has 5.5 sacks already this season despite constantly drawing double-teams, and he leads the NFL with 54 tackles for loss since the start of the 2022 season.

Acquiring Crosby would be great for the Bears for two reasons. One, he'd give them one of the most fearsome all-around defenses in the league. Two, they'd keep him away from the division-rival Detroit Lions, who just lost star pass-rusher Aidan Hutchinson for the season.

Acquiring Crosby could be the risk the Bears need to take to solidify themselves as real threats to win the NFC title. It would be expensive (Crosby is in year two of a four-year, $94 million contract with an out after 2024), but it would also be worth the hassle.
