Riq Woolen injury: Mike Macdonald gives update on Seahawks corner's status for Week 7

The Seattle Seahawks defense continues to be snake-bitten by injuries as they head into their seventh game of the season, a road trip to face the Atlanta Falcons. All three levels of Seattle's defense have felt the sting, but right now the position that's hurting the most is cornerback. In last week's matchup with the San Francisco 49ers, Riq Woolen was ruled out due to an ankle injury and along the way both Tre Brown and Artie Burns went down, as well.

That means the team may be really thin at a critical spot in Atlanta, particularly if Woolen can't play. According to head coach Mike Macdonald, Woolen's availability will come "down to the wire" to play against the Falcons on Sunday, per Brady Henderso n at ESPN.

Woolen sitting out would be another devastating blow for the Seahawks defense, as he's been their best cover defender this season. Woolen has allowed a league-low 27.3% completion rate and a 1.7 passer rating.

We already know one cornerback who won't be available this week: veteran Artie Burns has been placed on the injured reserve list after re-aggravating his toe injury from earlier in the season. That move makes room for new arrival Roy Robertson-Harris , who the team traded a sixth-round pick to Jacksonville for on Tuesday. As for Tre Brown, Macdonald told reporters that he won't practice today for the Seahawks. We will have to follow the progress for Brown and Woolen as the team's Week 7 injury report develops.

If all three are out, Seattle would likely resort to playing Devon Witherspoon on the left boundary, Coby Bryant in the slot and Nehemiah Pritchett on the right side. Odds are they'd have to bring in outside help for depth, at least for this week.
